# Renovate Lookup

> Renovate Lookup runs Renovate's package update lookup for one dependency. It provides a browser interface and an unauthenticated JSON API.

Use `POST /api` with `Content-Type: application/json`. `depName` and `datasource` are required. `packageName` defaults to `depName`; include `currentValue` for a normal version lookup. The response contains the installed `renovateVersion` and Renovate's output in `result`.

Unknown fields are rejected. Custom `registryUrls` must use HTTPS and an origin allowed by the server. Do not invent package versions or registry URLs. Read `result.updates`, `result.warnings`, and optional `result.skipReason` as Renovate's lookup result.
